The 918 Spyder “Super-Sports” concept is powered by both a 500-horsepower V8 and a pair of electric motors (one for each axle) producing an additional 218 hp or 160kW. On the ecological surface it is talented of 3.0 litres/100 kilometers (94 mpg imp / 78 mpg US) with just 70 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer. That gives a combined power output of 528 kW (718 PS / 708 hp) resulting in a 0 to 100 km/h tear in just 3.2 seconds, top zoom of 320 km/h (198 mph), and a lap time on the Nurburgring Nordschleife in excluding than 7:30 record, which is closer than the Porsche Carrera GT.

New Sport Volkswagen One-Liter L1

New Sport Volkswagen One-Liter L1 Volkswagen One-Liter L1

Volkswagen’s new L1 Concept was originally developed in concept form back in 2002, the L1 was designed along the premise of building the world’s first car capable of consuming just one liter of fuel for every 100 kilometers it traveled. With Volkswagen chairman Dr. Ferdinand Piech behind the wheel, the concept proved its merit as it drove from Wolfsburg to Hamburg in a public demonstration. Still, in 2002, VW was unable to make a production case for the L1, citing massive materials costs for the carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque body. Still, Piech held out hope that the L1 would be production-viable one day.
VW has decided that the day is near, and will bring an updated version of the L1 Concept to the Frankfurt Motor Show this week. With plans for the L1′s production slated for 2013, VW will show the new concept in “near-production” form, with every component reengineered. The L1′s chassis is crafted partially from lightweight aluminum. VW claims the L1 weighs in at a scant 380 kgs with its CFRP body, and will accelerate to a top speed of just over 160 kph courtesy of its ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.195. The L1 utilizes a 1L TDI diesel engine and a single electric motor in a full-hybrid configuration and consumes 1.38 liters of diesel for every 100 km it travels.
Other interesting touches include the cockpit layout, with the passenger seat directly behind that of the driver. Entrance and exit of the vehicle is made possible by the side-hinged roof canopy – similar in design to a glider. The L1′s general aerodynamic profile and seating configuration were also glider-inspired

New Sport BMW debuting sustainable Frankfurt

New Sport BMW debuting sustainable FrankfurtBMW debuting sustainable In Frankfurt

Busy, busy. BMW starts the day by leaving F1. And it looks like for lunch they're bringing a green sports car to the Frankfurt Auto Show. Maybe. According to Autotelegraf.nl, the new sustainable sports car concept will be inspired by the BMW M1 Hommage concept and will feature all the latest and greatest BMW EfficientDynamics (auto stop/start, regenerative brakes, electric powersteering, etc). But the hits don't stop there -- look for the concept to be built from sustainable materials, too. Big question: will this car be just a concept, or will a sustainable sports car actually make its way to dealers? Dunno. But the Dutch word is that BMW is studying the viability of said project and is planning on a limited release two-door showcasing their best environmental kung fu by 2012. Again, we just don't know, and we're not quite willing to hold our breath yet.

New Sport Audi TT RS

Audi’s technical development department TE (“Tech Recess Entwicklung”) has amused himself with hustrimmaren quattro GmbH and developed a racing version of the TT RS. The background is that you feel pressure from racing enthusiasts to get a (cheaper?) Alternative to R8 LMS. The car is built to participate in 24-hour racing at Nürgburgring after VLN-regulation that exists, or “Veranstaltergemeinschaft Lang Line Trophy Nurburgring” as it’s actually called.

VLN is one of several operators who run the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring and the Audi TT RS SP 4T will be tested during the last two this year, 16 and 30 October. Drivers will be Marc Hennerici and Christopher Mies, who is running for the Austrian Team Raeder Motorsport. Audi and quattro GmbH have tried to keep costs down by using components from R8 LMS and do not alter the wheelbase. However, – as we see – a gauge of substantially broadened by at least said large wheel arch extensions. How much power is picked out of the 2.5-liter turbo fifth grade are not reported but probably put it on a “moderate” level to get good reliability.

New Sport TVR MD-1

TVR MD-1
Back in April we reported that TVR was preparing a new Corvette-engined model, and it seems that they have been quietly working on it ever since. Now that the model is taking a little more shape, Nikolai Smolenski, owner of the British sports car company, is back in the news providing more details for his comeback car.
The new model, called the MD-1, will be based on the Tuscan convertible and will be powered by a Corvette sourced 6.2 liter V8 engine with an output of 638 HP. From the Tuscan, the MD-1 will borrow the fabric hood and the windscreen, but all of the other elements of the car will be changed in order to make a "clear departure from TVR’s past."
"Production will be outsourced. We have received offers from Jimmy Prize in South Africa and plenty of others from England. [...] I would naturally prefer to work with firms such as Caterham or Lotus, but it’s unlikely that the former would be able to do it, and the latter wouldn’t represent good value for money. But it’s equally possible that I wouldn’t go back to the UK at all, and could set myself up somewhere in Germany," said Smolenski.
Next to the MD-1, TVR is also preparing a three-seat MD-2 that will be revealed a few years later. An MD-3 may also be in the works and will be "totally different and more imposing" according to Smolenski.
The MD-1 will go on sale in spring 2012, and will be limited to 250 units a yea

New Sport Chevrolet Volt: Full Driving Impressions

Chevrolet Volt
Finally, after almost four years, we've driven the 2011 Chevrolet Volt in a variety of conditions, talked over our impressions, and reached a conclusion: Yes, the 2011 Volt electric car is a real car.
It may be propelled by electricity. It may plug into a wall socket or a special garage recharger to "refuel." But the new and remarkable compact hatchback also rides and drives quietly, seats four comfortably, and performs briskly.
The fact that it also has a revolutionary powertrain that operates as an electric car or a plug-in hybrid--and is the first Chevrolet you can plug into a wall to recharge--could almost be an afterthought. It's that well executed.
The sole fly in the ointment is the inevitably high early adopter price: $41,000. New auto technology always costs a lot when it first hits the market, and the Volt's lithium-ion battery pack all by itself likely costs half the price of a new 2011 Chevy Cruze subcompact.

New Sport Ford Focus: 40 MPG Expected From Stronger Base Engine

New Ford Focus 2012
Ford has announced a few more details regarding the standard four-cylinder engine that will be under the hood of most, if not all, 2012 Ford Focus models. And there's truly something for everyone; the new engine has more power, is smoother, and goes farther on a gallon of gas than the engine it replaces.
The new 2.0-liter engine doesn't have jaw-dropping power and torque figures—a respectable 160 horsepower and 146 pound-feet—but thanks to the deployment of Ford's twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) and direct injection, it should be a good deal more flexible and responsive compared to the 140-hp, 136 lb-ft version that's currently in the focus.
Ti-VCT promises continuously variable—and quick—responses to changes in loads or driving styles by using a combination of engine oil pressure and electronically controlled solenoid valves.
What's even more impressive is the new Focus models' projected fuel economy: up to 40 mpg on the highway, according to Ford. Based on the automaker's record with the 2011 Ford Fiesta, this will likely come with the new six-speed DCT automatic transmission; a six-speed manual gearbox will be standard.
Flex-fuel capability will be built into the new engine from the start, with it capable of accepting gasoline blends with up to 85-percent ethanol (E85). Direct injection, with Denso high-pressure injectors, also helps permit this engine's high 12:1 compression ratio and compatibility with regular gas.
Ford says that it's taken special measures with this new engine to reduce friction yet reduce weight. Of course with the new Focus, as any of the automaker's recently redesigned or refreshed models such as the 2011 Ford Mustang or 2011 Ford F-150, you'll find electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), while the Focus employs so-called stretchy belt technology to eliminate the need for a belt tensioner. The alternator and water pump run on a separate decoupled belt that helps isolate vibrations, and the intake is entirely made of composites.
This won't be the only powertrain for the new 2012 Focus; both a Focus BEV electric vehicle and a higher-performance (yet still economical) EcoBoost (turbocharged and direct-injected) version of the Focus are in the works. Keep an eye out for more details as they emerge.
Ford dealerships are already taking orders for the 2012 Ford Focus, and deliveries will begin this coming winter.

New Sport Ferrari 458 Italia Spider And 612 Scaglietti to be revealed in 2011

Ferrari 458 Italia Spider And 612 Scaglietti
There’s a reason that Ferrari is a household name for any auto enthusiast, and the next couple of years will illustrate just what that reason is with new models just pouring out of the Italian sports car manufacturer.
The beginning of this liberation of models will be the successor for the current 612 Scaglietti. This successor will be unveiled in early 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show, with a Spider version for the Ferrari 458 Italia coming out later that year at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The long rumored successor for the Enzo supercar will arrive in early 2012, and the 599 GTB’s replacement, codenamed F152, will arrive in the second half of 2012.
The new 612 has been codenamed F151 and was already rumored to combine a V12 front engine that delivers a total of 550 HP with a 100-HP electric motor at the rear. The result will be a fuel consumption reduction of 35%. As for the 458 Italia Spider, it will feature the same folding hardtop as the California.

New Sport Orca SC7

Orca SC7

Orca (much like in Pagani Zonda) uses super-light materials to reduce the weight of this supercar as much as possible. The result is obvious, SC7 weights just 850 kg (1,874 lbs). Its engine produces 738 ft lbs at 4200 rpm torque and outputs 850 horsepower, which sets power to weight ratio to 1 bhp:1 kg. The production of this Swiss supercar is limited to only 7 automobiles.

New Sport Koenigsegg CCR

Koenigsegg CCR

Koenigsegg CCR is better known as the 'record-breaker'. Yes, the CCR beat the The McLaren F1 supercar, the fastest production car ever built, at Italy's Nardo Prototipo on October 28th 2010, with a breath-taking performance at 387.87 km/h, a 15 km/h increase from the later's past record.

Koenigsegg is an exclusive manufacturer of super sports cars, the latest being the Koenigsegg CCX with a performance speed of 403 km/h. The CC (Competition Coup) led by Koenigsegg is unlikely to be defeated in the near future. The McLaren F1 and Ferrari Enzo supercars still have to come a long way to prove superior in the squad of Production cars. The performance speed of McLaren F1 is 372 km/h and that of Ferrari Enzo is 355 km/h as per the results at Nardo/Prototipo.

Koenigsegg CCR is synonymous with speed. The engineering and design of this sports car substantiate this fact. The aerodynamic body and the lightweight chassis display the main purpose of the vehicle, the speed. The front bumper reminds you the cutting shark with pointed face and deep nostrils. The materials of the body are the lightweight carbon fiber compounds reinforced with Kevlar and aluminum honeycomb. These features ensure the complete safety along with the super speed even in extreme driving conditions. A feather-touch driving experience from Koenigsegg!

Koenigsegg CCR is specially designed considering the tastes of the sporty car customers. The low and broad appearance of the body adds a pleasant feeling of safety; added to this is the fashionably designed semicircular windscreen and organically shaped rear hood. Under roofless driving conditions, the hardtop can be turned to fit under the front bonnet. The whole chassis can be exposed when the hoods and the roof are open; this adds a lot of convenience while inspecting the body.

The most important feature of any sports car is the design of its body. Koenignsegg CCR's body is perfectly symmetrical adding a sense of equilibrium while driving. The gear lever is located at the center point of the supercar. All other important mechanisms are mounted around the steering so as to have a good control over them, and these instruments are visible from the upper spokes of the wheel avoiding unnecessary acrobatics while driving.

A lot more technological additions, such as the cutting edge brakes, new racing shock absorbers, CCR advanced throttle, a monocoque carbonfibre intake plenum, and 19" front wheels, etc., are applied to make Koenigsegg CCR the choice of the leaders.

New Sport Ferrari FXX

Ferrari FXX

The Ferrari FXX supercar is manufactured in Italy, along with all other Ferrari's, and was under production by the end of 2010. This sports car is a great display of new car technology, which includes innovations from Ferrari, along with other companies that have continuously contracted parts in association with the Ferrari brand. The Enzo is the supercar that the FXX is based on, but there are specific functions found on the FXX, that are not found on the Enzo, which makes the FXX a complete car of it's own accord. The engine, and other standard operating systems for the car, are modeled after the Enzo as well, but have been modified to accommodate differing fuel standards, and other technological restrictions.

The FXX boasts a very low gear shifting time (under 100 ms), which is essential for a sports car of this high magnitude. The brake pads have also been tweaked in order to create a safer atmosphere for the driver, while still making the car just as superficially viable as its predecessor. The tires are another feature that are highly touted as an individual characteristic of the car, and are custom made only for the Ferrari FXX, not for any other vehicle. Like the Enzo, the features of the Ferrari FXX's interior are custom made for the user, which means that every driver is measured specifically measured for the car upon purchase.

The Ferrari FXX is definitely a supercar that cannot be mass-produced, mainly due to production costs, but also due to the fact that only a select few are willing to purchase such an exotic car due to the extensively high $ 1,773,000 / 1,500,000 euro price. Thus only 29 units of this sports car were built. The Ferrari FXX computer technology held inside the car also makes for a great driving experience, and tells the driver how their technique can be improved to assist their ability to function along with the car.

New Sport Giugiaro Namir In Concept

Giugiaro Namir In Concept

The fastest hybrid on earth has finally been created. This electric-gasoline beauty is designed by two concept specialists, Frazer Nash and Italdesign Giugiaro. It boasts a top speed of 187 mph, with two electric engines and a .08 liter gasoline engine it has a delicious range of 1,200 miles! It lacksnothing in horsepower. throwing out 370 horses. All covered in a gorgeous candy-corn orange body. What’s really exciting for me about such endeavours is that concepts like these get the wealthier populations excited about full economy. They need not sacrifice style and sex appeal for better gas mileage. It’s my high hopes that other luxury auto makers make more aggressive efforts to greenify their fleets.
